Dead Ends is a radio play developed and produced by theatre company, Strange Town, working with Gavin Fort, and a host of young writers and actors.
Written by Alan Gordon and Catherine Exposito, “Dead Ends” is the story of young people trying to get by despite one unfortunate setback: being young people in 2016. Heavily inspired by the real life experiences of the writers and actors themselves, the series brings a slice of drama, romance and irreverent humour while highlighting some of the difficulties young people can face in modern society.
The project grew from being one of the #artcore microprojects in Spring 2015, where three of Strange Town’s original theatre scripts were repurposed for the airwaves. The next stage was inevitable – to commission and create a completely original piece of theatre devised specifically for radio broadcast.
The young actors and writers were given an opportunity to develop and showcase their talents, with many of them never having done voiceover work before.
Dead Ends was Produced by Strange Town with funding from #artcore, the Edinburgh Youth Arts Hub supported by Creative Scotland’s “Time To Shine” Initiative. #artcore is a collaborative 2 year project led by Out of the Blue at the Drill Hall in collaboration with Edinburgh arts organisations, young people, artists and young Creative Apprentices.
